Description

Henzel Studio is honored to have collaborated with photographer Mary McCartney on a limited-edition collection of art rugs and accompanying art pillows, encompassing highlights from McCartney’s archive selected in collaboration with the artist.
For two decades, McCartney has explored the female gaze and abroad range of subjects, examining nuanced aspects of identity, vulnerability and femininity through her lens. Whether the subjects are world-famous or unknown, familiar to her or not, she has used the camera to gain a deeper understanding of their true selves. Authenticity and truthfulness are key denominators in McCartney’s search of the naturally inspiring and beautiful in humanity and nature, using the camera to develop and discover the world. McCartney’s practice was ignited by her mother Linda’s career as a world-renowned photographer and her intimate photographic recording of family life. Her work has been shown internationally and has appeared in the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A in recent years. Titled ‘Freedom’, the collection features six rugs that document highlights of Mary McCartney’s career, including photographs depicting her horse Alejandro, from her book, ‘The White Horse’, her sister Stella stepping out of a car and a dancer from a project capturing dancers backstage at the Royal Ballet in London.

Selected exhibitions / Public collections: Victoria & Albert Museum, London; National History Museum, London; National Portrait Gallery, London; Gagosian, New York.
